The Cracked Mirror by Chris Brookmyre
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This certainly was a complex, perhaps even ingenious plot.
Did I guess who the culprit was? I cast my net over several people, including the actual culprit, but turns out that my net dragged in one too many people into the conspiracy.
Penny Corn and Johnny Hawke’s memory lapses had me on the alert, and I did guess a fair amount of the plot at the half-way point – including the “big reveal!” I think many people will start to suspect that Wesley was way ahead of the game.
(Sorry, couldn’t resist borrowing this epic moment from one of the best space time-travel movies of all time, Galaxy Quest. That movie made my sides ache from all my laughter, it was so good!)
Still, it was a great ride and Brookmyre painted very realistic worlds in each of the “scenarios” in this book. To say more would be to create a massive spoiler, so I will end my review by saying that I had a hard time putting this book down, and I have ordered several more of this author’s mysteries from my local library. I’m awarding The Cracked Mirror 4 out of 5 highly dramatic and pulse-pounding stars! Well done!
