Urban Fantasy is one of my guilty pleasures, alongside Space Operas. What can I say? I’m a simple guy – I see magical mayhem and gruesome gods in catankerous city scapes, I read.
Of course, a lot of those books are like comfort cuisine. You know, nothing fancy, just there to warm body and soul one their simpleness. And if you take a look at how many books Pippa churns out, she’s got to be a quick chef, and I would not expect something too complex.

With that in mind, I wasn’t disappointed. The main reason I decided to give this series a try was pretty simple: I’ve seen countless Nordic, Roman or Greek gods in UF literature over the past dozen or so years. But Egyptian? That’s rare enough so I decided to give it a try.
And who would have thought Osiris to be such a cruel bastard? Then again, that guy is married to his sister, so maybe it’s par for the course.

After all is said and done -I went into this book with low expectations, and sure enough wasn’t disappointed. A lot of tropes you could find in every UF book, but the relationship dynamic between Osiris, the Nameless One and Shukra are something new. Also, the Egyptian mythology feels like a sprinkle of freshness.
3.5 out of 5 jackals for me – UF fast food with a nice touch of Egyptian fast food.

You are in no way a “simple guy” Stefan! Your quirky sense of humour adds to the interest you generate for these types of books. We all need to wind down and relax from our demanding work and home life pressures. Glad this one did the job. A culinary bonbon to seal the deal! Great review, as usual, Stefan!
